Basic Safety Training (BST) Course

This course is conducted in accordance with the STCW Convention and the guidelines issued by the Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA), Government of India.

Course Fee: ₹10,000/-

Duration: 12 Days

Eligibility

  • Candidates must possess a valid INDOS Number and be declared medically fit by a DGMA-approved Medical Examiner.
  • With effect from 01 August 2026, candidates seeking admission to the Basic Safety Training (BST) Course for the purpose of obtaining an Indian Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC) must belong to any one of the following categories:
  • Pre-Sea Training Certificate Holders who have successfully completed a DGMA-approved Pre-Sea Training Course.
  • Agniveer Candidates holding a valid discharge certificate.
  • Hospitality Sector Candidates holding a Degree, Diploma, or Certificate in Hotel Management (or an equivalent hospitality qualification) and having completed the DGMA-approved Orientation Course for Catering Personnel (OCCP).
  • Hospitality and Passenger Service Professionals engaged through DGMA-approved Cruise Line Recruitment & Placement Companies to meet operational requirements (CDC validity restricted to service on Cruise and Passenger Vessels only).
  • Ex-Indian Navy Personnel holding a valid discharge certificate.
  • Certified Cooks holding a Cook Certificate of Competency (CoC) issued by or recognised by the Government of India.
  • Certificate of Competency (CoC) Holders issued by or recognised by the Government of India.

At the end of the course a seafarer should able to follow “SAFE WORKING PRACTICES'',as laid out in the ships operating procedure(SOP)and as per the ISM Checklist and also company specific safety drills should comply with.If incase the crew has to abandon the vessel we should able to don the life jackets,lower the lifeboats,life drafts and move away form the ships. He/she should be able to use the communication equipments ,Distress signals effectively.

This Course is Mandatory for:

Those who want to sail on board merchant ships,Cruise vessels,oil rigs etc,.and also to apply for the Indian CDC(Continuous Discharge Certificate)which is a mandatory Document required for sailing on board Merchant Ships.

Prerequisites :

Passport, INDoS Certificate,Medical Certificate from DG Approved Doctor

Assessment :

In accordance with DGS Order 11 of 2022, exit examinations are required to be attended in person at the respective Maritime Training Institute (MTI).
