This course equips mariners seeking Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch (OICNW) certification with the knowledge and skills to effectively utilize radar for safe navigation. It aligns with the competency standards outlined in Section A-II/1 of the STCW 95 convention and leverages materials from IMO Model Course 1.07 and the META Manual Vol. II Appendix M-II/1C.

ARPA Course Objectives & Description

The objective of this course is to learn Description an ARPA System ARPA Systems display characteristics,IMO Performance standards for ARPA, Tracking Capabilities and Limitations of ARPA,Obtaining Target information,Errors of Interpretation,Displayed Data,Risk of overreliance of ARPA,Obtaining information in both true and relative motions,Determine the CPA and TCPA of the target,Application of Colregs,Test on manual Plotting.

Deck Cadet After completing his ROSC Course (Radar Observer Simulator Course) will do ARPA (Automatic Radar Plotting Aid) Course.

  • This course is Mandatory for Deck Department Seafarers aspiring to appear for 2nd Mate FG Examinations at MMDs.
  • Deck officers Aspiring to become Second Mate of a Foreign going ships to keep Navigational and Watchkeeping,at sea
  • Deck Officers seeking to enhance their radar knowledge and operating skills
Prerequisites :
  • A cadet should have a degree in BSc Nautical Science and completed 12 months sea service experience (or) A cadet with Diploma in Nautical Science and completed 18 months of Sea service.
  • Basic understanding of navigational principles and should have completed ROSC
Assessment :

This course involves written exams, practical exercises using radar simulators, and to demonstrate radar operating skills.
