This course equips mariners seeking Officer in Charge of a Navigational
Watch (OICNW) certification with
the knowledge and skills to effectively utilize radar for safe navigation. It aligns with the competency
standards
outlined in Section A-II/1 of the STCW 95 convention and leverages materials from IMO Model Course
1.07 and the META Manual Vol. II Appendix M-II/1C.
ARPA Course Objectives & Description

Deck Cadet After completing his ROSC Course (Radar Observer Simulator Course) will do ARPA (Automatic
Radar Plotting Aid) Course.

- Select appropriate radar modes and range settings based on prevailing conditions.
- Operate radar controls effectively for optimal performance.
- Understand the limitations of radar equipment in target detection and accuracy.

Prerequisites :
- A cadet should have a degree in BSc Nautical Science and completed 12 months sea service
experience (or) A cadet with Diploma in Nautical Science and completed 18 months of Sea
service.
- Basic understanding of navigational principles and should have completed ROSC
Assessment :
This course involves written exams, practical exercises using radar simulators, and
to demonstrate radar operating skills.
