This course equips officers in charge of a navigational watch with the fundamental knowledge and skills to effectively utilize radar systems. It adheres to the competency standards outlined in Section A-II/1 of STCW 95, drawing upon Appendix M-II/1C of the META Manual Vol. II and IMO Model Course 1.07 for course material development.
Radar Observer Simulator Course Subjects Includes:
The cadets during the course will understand Radar Theory,Performance standards for Radar equipment,Setting up and operating displays of RADAR,The use of radar for navigation,Use of RADAR for Plotting,In terms of COLREGS.
- Radar operation (theory & standards)
- Display setup and adjustments
- Manual plotting techniques (relative & true motion)
- Collision avoidance (CPA/TCPA)
- Radar for navigation (position fixing & course keeping)
- COLREGS compliance
After completion of ROSC and other required courses the cadet is eligible to appear for Exams / Orals.
ROSC Course Out Come:
- Identify situations where radar usage is essential for safe navigation.
- Select appropriate radar modes and range settings based on prevailing conditions.
- Configure radar controls for optimal performance.
- Recognize the limitations of radar equipment in target detection and accuracy.
Prerequisites :
- Students seeking certification as officers in charge of a navigational watch.
Sea Time:
Successful completion of a minimum of 12 months at sea prior to course enrollment.
- Deck Officers seeking to enhance their radar knowledge and operating skills
- A cadet should have a degree in BSc Nautical Science and completed 12 months sea service experience (or) A cadet with Diploma in Nautical Science and completed 18 months of Sea service.
Assessment :
This course involves written exams, practical exercises using radar simulators, and to demonstrate radar operating skills.
